E.T. Remote Not Working? Here’s What You Should Check

Your gate remote suddenly stops working, and your first thought is probably, “I need a new remote.” But before replacing it, there are a few things worth checking.

E.T. remotes are commonly used with automated gates and garage doors, and like any battery-powered device, they can eventually stop working or become unreliable. Here are a few things to look out for.

1. Check the Remote Battery

A weak or flat battery is one of the most common reasons a remote stops working properly.

If your remote has become less responsive or you need to be much closer to the gate for it to work, the battery could be running low.

2. Look at the Remote's Range

Has your remote always worked from a distance, but now you have to stand right next to the gate?

A reduced operating range can be a sign that the battery is getting weak. However, interference, the receiver and other factors can also affect range.

Checking the battery is a good place to start before replacing the entire remote.

3. Check for Physical Damage

Remotes go everywhere with us — on keyrings, in handbags, pockets and cars — so it's not surprising that they can take a few knocks.

Check your remote for cracked casing, damaged buttons or other visible signs of wear. If a button feels different or doesn't respond when pressed, the remote itself may need attention.

4. Make Sure You Have the Right E.T. Remote

If you're replacing a lost or damaged remote, it's important to make sure you get a compatible model for your system.

When in doubt, bring your existing remote with you.

5. Don't Replace the Remote Until You've Checked the Battery

If your E.T. remote isn't working, you might not need a new remote at all.
